Pissing around today

Well it was time to get out again. Get some fresh air and enjoy a day. I try to get out at least once a week and enjoy a day. Can’t spend all my time in my women cave. Sitting on my duff watching tv and crafting away. If I did that I would not be a happy camper. Believe me I do love being there, but there is a limit to how much I can stay in before I go bonkers.

Being as the weather was cooperating made it so much better to get out. I had a sweater on this morning thinking it was going to be a chilly day. But it did warm up. Another bonus. It did not rain today. Well that is what the weatherperson was claiming yesterday.

So last night I took to my iPad and looked at my app for trails in the area. An easy one for me today. No up hills or mountains today. My poor back, feet and legs are heading for winter pain. Seems to start happening this time of year. Like I said before I am a weather metre. The weather starts to change and so does the pain in my bod. So time to start taking it easy for the winter again. Every year it seems to get a little worse. Getting old is the Pitts. Getting old with pain is double the Pitts.

So I picked out two places to check out. One was for me taking the dogs a couple of times, but not today. I was making sure that dogs are welcome before I take them out. So today is a recon day. Just me on a little tour. Pissing around. Checking out the roads to these places. If my bug can not get to it then it isn’t worth trying to go.. Maybe taking a little walk along the paths to see if okay for walking. checking out the terrain for my poor feet and knees. Don’t want a rocky path. I do twist ankles frequently and it would happen when I am way away from the car.

So this morning I am up and out the door. First stop was to get some paint and drop it off at a flooring place. We are having some new floors put in and they wanted paint for the trim that goes along the walls. If I didn’t get paint to them they would make it white. That certainly would not match up with the blue trim we have now. So I had to get some paint in right colour to match with the floor. Well that was my first stop.

Now I had the rest of the day to check out a couple of places for walking. My day of pissing around. I started out just over the Fraser River. I headed out around a few back roads and ended up at Sumas mountain area. On the north side. There are a couple of trails that would head up the mountain side to a look out. I found the entrance and took a look. The road to get to the entrance was a little iffy for my bug, but I did make it there. I parked and walked a little. Up hill. Whoa! This will be something I will have to do when I am in less pain. I am going to do it though. I want to go up to the lookout and see the view. There is a lake up there as well that might be nice to see as well. But won’t be right now.

I drove down Sumas mountain road and ended up at Matsqui regional park. The east side of the trams Canada trail. Hey there is parking at this end. Bonus. So I parked and took a walk along the dyke. Watched the boats on the river fishing salmon. Not much other traffic on the river besides a few fishing boats. I walked a little ways on the dyke and then turned around to go back to the car. I know if I walked the whole distance I would be back at the Mission bridge. That walk would take an hour or so for me. I just amble along and enjoy my walks.

So pretty along the Fraser River. The path is good for me to walk this time of year. Great place for the pooches as well. Was very quiet there today, but never know on another day when I decide to bring them along with me. Thing is it is not a loop trail. So you have to walk back as far as you walked forward.

So after my little walk along the Fraser River I headed over towards Chilliwack area. I was planning on the Chilliwack/Vedder River area. I made my way around the back way of Abbotsford. Leaving the traffic to someone else. I really do not care for the traffic of the Fraser valley. Way too much. So I find all the back roads I can. Once I came down at Whatcom road I took south parallel road instead of highway 1. Much better road for driving. The major highway is right beside me, but I am not driving on it. Always a method to my madness. Suddenly the highway slows down and I just keep toddling along south parallel road with no problem. Make my way on back roads and byways to Keith Wilson road. I go over the chilliwack river and plan on stopping there for a walk. Hmm. I think it is pretty busy here for a Thursday. Not much of a place to park. Fishing going on all along the River. Not much of a quiet place to walk I guess I won’t get a walk along the dyke here.

So I start driving again. Along Keith Wilson road a little further to the east I come to a stop sign. there is a little sign there that says reserve down that road. Well okay let’s take a look. Like I said I was just pissing around today. I turned south and followed the road. I came up to a fence and figured it was closed up because of covid. Drove a little closer and saw the gate was opened. Drove on in and found a parking spot. The parking lot was pretty empty. Well another bonus for me. I like walking where there isn’t allot of people. I like my peace and quiet to relate with nature. My happy place.

Well first I took a walk into the gift shop/information centre. A couple of other people in there so didn’t stay too long. Had a little boo around and then headed out on the trails. This is the Blue Heron Bird reserve

First path I took was a dead end. Walked it all the way to the end, just to see I had to turn around and go back. I did have a map with me, but I guess when I thought I was going one way I must have been going the other. Silly silly me. I wanted to get to a certain place. Make a loop out of it so I would get back to where I was parked. So back to the gift shop once more. Looked at the map again and bonked myself. I had to take this path not that one. Well a little more exercise I got. It was a nice walk anyways.

Now I head down the right path I wanted. Took my over a bridge and I found a tower. Four stories high to look out over the water and the land. Hmmm! I guess I am going up. If I have to stop I have to stop. Well I made it to the top without stopping. I guess I still have some shape to me. A little winded but I did it. From one way you could see the sisters that overshadow Chilliwack. That’s what they are called. the sister. You look the other way and you see the mountains that over shadowAbbotsford and Mission. Beautiful site on both views. Too bad a bit of a cloudy day today. I make my way back down the tower. Back on the path I was on before and head toward the Chilliwack River.

I come to a t in the path. Left takes me along the chilliwack River towards the east. Right I go west along the river. I choose the left. I am not walking all the way along the river. I pick a point where I will stop and turn around to go back. There is a train bridge and I pick that as my turnaround area. So I walk along the path. Take a deek here and there to look at the river. Lots of fishermen out on the water. A few have salmon in bags to enjoy in the freezer or for dinner tonight.

I make it to the train bridge. I walk out under the bridge. Lean up against the bridge poles and just enjoy the scenery for a bit. The water rolling down the stream to the Fraser River. Fish being caught and voices you can hear of fishermen chatting with each other.

I walk under the bridge and take a path that will put me up on the bridge. More fishermen walking across the bridge with their hall for the day. It is a bit of a trek for them to get back to the road carrying bags of fish back to their trucks or cars. Very heavy loads, but I guess it is worth it for them. Me, I am not into fishing, but would sit along the river and enjoy the day while others fished.

On my walk back to the path I wanted. I met a couple of gents along the way

They where peeking their heads out to watch me as I walked along. Too funny when I saw them. I made my way along after having a chat with them. I found the path I wanted to make it back to my car. Almost made a left instead of a right. That would have been a mistake and I would have been walking away from my car heading more along the river. More walking I don’t think I needed. I could feel my back telling me to go sit down now.

So along the last path I went. As usual I did not see any animals. Usually the par for me. It was nice to get out and about. Can’t be cooped in my women cave all the time. Even if I do love crafting my life away. Need to be out and about to get some fresh air and a little exercise. if not my bod will not agree with me at all and things will start to stiffen up.

Back at my car and put on air for a bit. It may have been a little warmer out then I thought. I drive back toward North Parallel road. Taking the north side this time. There is one more trail I want to find today. I know I will not be walking it today, but I would like to find where it is. This trail will take me up Sumas mountain on the south side. I mean way up. So will not be something I will try unless I am feeling in a better state. Too many elevation raises for me right now. I do want to go up and check out the view though. I will ask someone to come with me. I don’t want to end up someplace in the bush with out anyone to help if something goes wrong. For now I will keep with the easy trails and enjoy my walks. Next year when the season and pain are right I will trek up to the view and take it all in.

As I drove along I missed my turn. I could have turned around and went back to find the turn. I guess I can leave it for another day. Another day of pissing around and looking for adventure.

So I did make it up part of Sumas mountain. I turned off north parallel road to Sumas Mountain road. It is a way to go to miss Abbotsford all together. You go up. Way up. Twists and turns and up some more. There I have not seen any view. Just lots of trees. There is a rock quarry up there and you pass the pipe line tanks. But still no view. Bummer! I come up to the road I turn at. I start heading down. Way down. Little switches in the road. And more tree. A very nice drive, but you do have to take it slow in places. This road takes me over to Old Clayborn road at old Clayborn. This is a very old village at the north side of Abbotsford. Back to highway 11 and over the bridge back to Mission

So that is my adventure for the day. Do love to take these adventures. Nice sometimes that they do not cost me any money to take. Well all except my gas. Some of my adventures need a little extra funds to do, but this one made my day. A day of fresh air and great company. Me myself and I enjoying a bit of exercise. Had my usual conversations as well. I was glad they all agreed with me on what we where doing for the day.

So that’s about it. Talk to you later.
